RE: "Still, I've crossed off Hawaii as a place to retire for us, it's just too secluded." LOL, we called that "Island Fever" when I lived there (8 years-half military/half civilian). It's just after a while, you've see it all, done it all. I never had that problem as I prefer a smaller town and smaller everything. Oahu is great for that if that is what you're looking for. My issue is with the expense side of HI. I can get small town here in the USA without the expenses, so I will stay put here in S.WA. Still, when I lived there in the early 90's I thought it was paradise. Hard to forget those feelings. Even if it's not quite paradise in 2026. :-)
