SIMSCI In Partnership With IFP Releases New Software for Oil-and-Gas-Production Modeling

BREA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 26, 1998-- Simulation Sciences Inc. (SIMSCI) (Nasdaq:SMCI) Thursday announced the release of PIPEPHASE-TACITE, software for simulating transient conditions in fluid-flow systems.

Developed in partnership with IFP of Paris, PIPEPHASE-TACITE combines the transient-modeling capabilities of TACITE, an add-on module from IFP, with PIPEPHASE, SIMSCI's leading fluid-flow simulator.

PIPEPHASE-TACITE helps oil producers improve the design, operation and management of oil-and-gas-production systems and transportation lines. It uses rigorous models and algorithms to simulate changing fluid-flow characteristics such as pressure, temperature and liquid holdup. PIPEPHASE-TACITE is helpful in solving many design and production problems such as:

-- Gas wells with condensate or liquid fall-out in the tubing -- Heading or intermittent flowing oil wells -- Terrain-induced liquid slugging in pipelines -- Pipeline line pack volume estimation -- Pipeline or vessel blowdown calculations -- Mixing zone estimation and tracking in product pipelines

The program is used in both design and surveillance modes and may be used to reduce equipment costs, increase production, reduce safety hazards and provide better information about overall system performance.

Christian Pauchon, head of the TACITE development project within IFP, said: "We believe TACITE is the most advanced software available for modeling transients in complex multiphase fluid-flow systems. The combination of this technology with the steady-state capabilities of PIPEPHASE 7.1 creates a powerful tool for the oil-and- gas industry."

John Dial, SIMSCI's vice president of systems technology, said: "PIPEPHASE-TACITE leverages SIMSCI's core strengths in fluid-flow simulation and thermodynamic property data and methods as well as our easy-to-use GUI technology. This new offering clearly demonstrates SIMSCI's leadership in fluid-flow simulation."
