How does having an ICE running a generator complicate the drivetrain? The Horse Powertrain C15 weighs 150 or so pounds and develops 80kW of electricity for as many hours as you feed it fuel in the normally aspirated form. The ICE is a Miller cycle and is very efficient for a piston ICE. That weight include everything except the radiator, hoses and fuel tank. It is compact, think 3 briefcases stacked, and can run vertically or horizontally.

How much would a battery pack weigh that could supply 80kWh? How big would it be? The C15 could likely be packaged with a radiator and enough diesel to run an hour in less that half a cubic meter.

Again, it is a bridge device and something to calm the fears of range anxiety.
