I thought myself to read at the age of 5, in an single evening. Just, suddenly developed an interest. Surprised my father when he came home from work. The next day I was reading a larger book, for much older kids. One of the first ones was a book on Greek mythology. I remember, it was very interesting. I remember the print was small - and it was probably meant for someone twice my age or older. Reading was fun. I must have been missing many things. Some years later, I remember reading something about Thomas Aquinus that caught my attention - he said that the thing he was most grateful for was that he never read a page without being able to understand the content. I vaguely remember trying remember if I read anything and was unable to understand it. Don’t recall what was my conclusion - but… over the years, I started encountering more and more such pages. Either St. Thomas was a far brighter man - or, it’s a consequence of living in an age of specialization. Probably, both.
