Astronics Corporation Appointment Of Board Member

F-22 Fighter Aircraft Contract Award

BUFFALO, N.Y., Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Astronics Corp today announced the appointment of
Robert J. McKenna to its Board of Directors. Also, the Company announced that its Luminescent
Systems (LSI) subsidiary was awarded a contract by Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems to
supply integrally illuminated cockpit control panels for the F-22 fighter aircraft.

Appointment of Robert McKenna to the Board of Directors

On October 1, 1996, the Company appointed Robert J. McKenna to its Board of Directors. Mr.
McKenna is Chairman, President and Chief Executive officer of Acme Electric Corporation.

In 1992 Mr. McKenna was appointed President of Acme Electric Corporation, a publicly traded
company on the New York Stock Exchange. He assumed his current position in 1994. Before he
joined Acme Electric, Mr. McKenna was Group Vice President of the Diversified Products Group
of Aeroquip Corporation. Acme Electric designs and manufactures power conversion equipment for
electronic and electrical systems for industrial, commercial, residential, and military and aerospace
applications.

LSI's F-22 Contract

The F-22 is the United States Air Force's next generation air superiority fighter, currently under
development by Lockheed Martin and Boeing. The aircraft is expected to make its first flight in
May, 1997. The USAF has committed to funding nine development aircraft initially with plans to
procure 442 in the future. The potential sales value to LSI if these F-22s are built exceeds
$2,000,000.

LSI was awarded the contract to supply electroluminescent cockpit control panels for this program.
The panels employ LSI's proprietary LifePlus Technology, an invention developed by the company
that significantly improves the performance of electroluminescent cockpit devices.

LifePlus Technology has been patented by LSI. This is the first major aircraft to select this
technology. There are several other programs that are actively considering this technology.

As a result of this order and the normal on-going business, Astronics' backlog at September 28,
1996, will be approximately $10,200,000, up 14 percent from the backlog as of December 31,
1995, and up 59 percent when compared to the backlog at the end of the Third Quarter of 1995.
