It won't kill your Prius. Eric, the multi degreed genius and master engine mechanic, is just blowing it out of his ass with his "30 mile warmups". Modern internal combustion engines are design to warm up to optimum operating temps as quickly as possible. Primarily for emission control. One or two miles of engine operation is all that's needed.

When an old fart like Eric was a teenager, it did take much longer (but not nearly 30 miles) to fully warm up an engine. Cars back then needed to get out on the highway occasionally and run up the revs to blow out accumulated sludge and carbon buildup. Motor oil technology has come a long way since then as well, although modern gasoline goes bad much quicker than it used to. Ethanol in gas is bad shit.

BTW, I was working at a GM dealership when that Volt first came out. We all came out and looked it over when it rolled off the car carrier. Interesting drive train with different and complicated battery/engine configurations. There was a Cadillac version of the Volt offered for sale a couple of years later.
