It's illegal to blockade the oil tankers in international waters and illegal to seize the oil. Any oil production-sharing contracts between the oil companies and Venezuela has long ago expired. They typically run for less than 20 years. They have no rights to the oil or a share of the revenue from the oil that's produced.
