It looks like he is serious about making the Western Hemisphere an American preserve. Which explains Greenland. Lock up everything from pole to pole and there is no need for international trade. If you have ever played Risk, this is an attractive tactic. Done it myself, many times.

For whatever reason, the end goal seems to be a return to mercantilism, along with its Great Powers and endless wars. It took two world wars to prove to everyone where those struggles for dominance leads. And that was just the developed world, what was visited on the rest of the world had stunningly horrific moments. Just google Belgian Congo and king Leopold. The Spice Wars are another.

Given the recent NSS, it looks as the goal is the US gets North and South America à la Monroe Doctrine, Russia gets Europe and China gets Asia. They can have their proxy wars in Africa.

Like in a video game.
