There is an interesting dichotomy between your style and mine; or perhaps it is just a matter of presentation. I understand where you are coming from. Focus and commitment is the key.

We both come from childhoods that ended in the sixties and then 'matured' in the 70's.

The basic tenet of existence I understood in that period of time was "If it feels good, DO IT." Do drugs, be promiscuous, disobey, and disrespect. The wall of great testing was the Draft set against the Protests of the early seventies. If by some circumstance one could not maintain the dissolution of the University, one was forced to deal with the reality of life. When all the alternatives were exhausted, one had little choice in the matter. One served one's country or one fled. Service was a malleable commodity within limits. Rather than go off to kill people I did not dislike, I chose to go off and serve another group of people I kind of liked. Helping people seemed the lesser of two evils, I could 'help' people and continue to follow the 'If it feels good do it' path...stay relatively drunk, whore to the limits of contentment, and read myself into a higher level of existence-as there was actually nothing much else to do. It was a very limited number of people who were forced along that path. And most of those found themselves completely divorced from 'their' society upon their return. To say they were outcasts is a poor description. Mental and physical lepers is more accurate. Painful, but enlightening to the sufferer.

The chit bags who run things can only hide for so long. And when you have seen it all from the outside, and then are forced back into it again. One many not see clearly and sing the song of rejoicing, but one can at least see what a fukup it all is.

Why all this BS? Because I have, since my return from Pair-a-dice, realized that my future is self determined. People listen to the 'scientific authorities' and all too often allow themselves to be chit-canned into the grave. I've dozens of friends and relatives who have passed simply because they insisted on listening to the medical routine-ists. Guys like Charters and Pogeu can see this. And if one is to survive one must attempt to see it too. Read, re-read, listen, re-listen, search for confirmations, and verify.
But in the end it is basic. No booze, few starches and sugars. plenty of animal proteins, plant fiber, high colored fruits. And exercise any way you get it. Cardio is the key to exercise. It means NOT becoming a lab rat stuck in experiments run by madmen.

Maxwell had the time. Time is key. When I bought a house my long runs disappeared from my options list. I'd like to do them again, but my nefarious past has made working today more than just a pleasure. If one is going to fun a marathon, one needs to run at least a half marathon every damn week for six months, and do five miles or so every other day. But if one is just going to drop one's blood pressure, and level off ones BS you can likely do it in an hour a day....still a major commitment! But living longer and healthier takes more commitment than any other pursuit will choose to run up against.
