I assembled a basic cold weather kit below, there are more things you could add, these are just the basics.

A First Aid kit should be in the vehicle already.

Be familiar with all your devices and have them set and ready to go. You don't have time to read an instruction manual or follow a YouTube tutorial submerged in frozen water.

Some old-timers believe that keeping a bottle of booze to sip on is a good idea for energy and warmth. In reality, it’s a bad idea, unless, of course, you’re truly stranded and want to get hammered before slipping into a final frozen sleep.

A stuck vehicle becomes a shelter, don’t abandon it lightly

Move slow, stay dry, don't sweat and don't panic WET = dead in cold

Cold Weather Kit:

- Seat-belt cutter + glass breaker (great idea)

- High-output flashlight and cold-rated lithium batteries

- Whistle

- Satellite communicator Garmin inReach or SPOT for two-way messaging

- STARLINK

- Baggy insulated snow suit 2 sizes too big to quickly slip on over clothes

- Fire starters

- Folding saw and axe

- Small propane torch

- Tiger Torch takes up space, not a bad idea to carry one on trips to remote areas

- Energy bars rated for cold

- Garlic nothing better for keeping blood circulating, farm raised of course, you can't buy the good stuff in stores

- Metal container for melting snow

- Tow strap

- Metal grain shovel - plastic ones break in -30

- Battery booster pack

- Dog for companionship and emergency food

- and if you're my dog...

- Human for companionship and emergency food
