Here in Florida I met a person who used to call in Bob Grant from time to time - Leroy from the Bronx. He was supposed to be black, but the person I met was an elderly Italian gent. He does a perfect character Leroy from the Bronx. In fact, Grant suspected something - he told Leroy that some they they’ll meet, and he’ll turn out to be a white guy. In which case, Bob promised to punch him in the nose. So, my new acquaintance was wise not to meet him in person.
He was a serious political commentator - and a great showman. Held nothing back. Mid ‘80’s into the 90’s — political correctness and censorship weren’t even invented in the US. But, he became too influential - apparently, he helped George Pataki defeat Mario Cuomo for governor. He called politicians nasty names. So, even in those days they, eventually, had enough - and got him fired.
He was a great guy.
