If a population is not based, there goes the prosperity they're after.
If the population is discouraged, nihilistic, corrupt… when there is no trust that what’s mine cannot be taken from me - except for legitimate reason and subject to a fair due process… there will be no prosperity - and to the degree it existed, it may be gone.

I’ve been thinking for many years - how come some societies are happy and affluent - while others are oppressive and poor. The difference is in their political and general cultures. If they are constructive and fairly structured - and people have reason to hope for a better future for themselves and their children - they’ll be free and prosperous. If they’re lawless and corrupt - they’ll be brutal and broke.

There are other factors, of course. Religion raises a person above their immediate circumstances - and gives hope.

And children will know what’s going on - every time. The single best thing parents can do for their children is to be honest, decent people. If the parents are dishonest and bent - kids will know it, every time - and, sadly, will internalize that. Their chances for a better future will be compromised.
