Leaders Owe San Franciscans Answers on Reparations Fund -
After large-scale No Kings protests in the summer of 2025 that condemned authoritarian policies from the Trump administration, local officials making such a unilateral decision that is clearly at odds with public sentiment is hypocritical.
The widely reported $5 million lump sum payment to each eligible person is just the beginning of the absurdity involved in this plan’s original proposal. Why did Mayor Lurie and Supervisors Connie Chan, Stephen Sherrill, Danny Sauter, Bilal Mahmood, Matt Dorsey, Myrna Melgar, Rafael Mandelman, Jackie Fielder, Shamann Walton, and Chyanne Chen sign the bill? I emailed them all for comment.
