I generally don't believe these competitors are going to go into the online realm unless they see it growing their business PROFITABLY.

You ask "why buy a stock in a business of uncertain economics when there are much deeper pockets, at much more reasonable valuations, that could easily muscle AMZN out if it is, in fact, a lucrative business to be in?"

I answer that they can't muscle AMZN out of the way. Amazon.com has an incredible lead and many inherent advantages based on their differing business model. I would say that it is entirely inappropriate to compare them with B&N and Border's valuations. They are different in too many ways.

Are any of the shorts out there telling me you weren't blown over by the lead AMZN has in sales over Barnes & Nobles website according to the latest figures? Come on now, be honest :-)
