Neither Chevron, Exxon or any other oil major will have anything to do inside Venezuela. It's all too toxic now, regardless of any major socialist subsidies being handed out by generalissimo Trump to people willing to operate in Veneuela.
Chevron buys Venezuelan crude when it's available, and both Chevron and Exxon get paid back past nationalization losses from these sales - but there's waaay too much risk for a Fortune 500 company to to operating inside Venezuela now. It's too risky for Nestle! and they just sell milk and ice cream. .
But you're right about former Chevron Latin America CEO Ali Mashiri.
73 year old Ali Moshiri, who retired from Chevron at the mandatory age of 65 as President, Chevron Africa-Latin America in March of 2017, is putting together a $2 billion investment group to invest in Venezuelan oil production. amosglobalenergy.com
Ali is an real, live, likeable, consensus-based, shared-win negotiator who personally knows and has dealt with every military-thug, gangster and crazy person in Venezuela - and many Latin American and African nations. I always thought I was a crazy risk-taking magic-maker that virtually everyone naturally likes . . .
. . . but Ali is a fearless guy with no sense of personal danger because all people really do naturally like him - - a disarming, guileless and calming influence. Ali is irrepressible. If anyone can make something happen, this is the guy. He's never really been into this sort of thing for the money. If he was why work as an oil company employee. Ali is motivated to prove he's still the magician who can pull off another amazing performance. He knows every accounting trick gangsters use to skim and will walk off if it happens.
Frontal-dementia Trump thinks he's a negotiator, but Moshiri is the real deal. Trump will be nothing more than a minor nuisance for Moshiri - dealing with a confused irrational homeless man currently squatting in the White House.
I've nothing but total admiration for Ali Mashiri - I just couldn't take his level of personal risks, but he's a class act.
