>> Which is why they wound up hiring a bunch of them back, they were so useless.
How about we get the numbers right?
250-300K fired originally, mostly with <2 years of service, sme with buyouts etc.
Judges ordered the rehiring of 25K "probationary" employees.
400 were reinstated at GSA in September.
300 were rehired at Veterans Crisis Hotline, 300 nuclear security staff, food safety, bird flue response, and some at IRS.
HHS said 2000 were cut due to errors and most be reinstated.
About 5K others via miscellaneous demands. 25K were rehired under court orders, and many were not rehired because the Court found there was "too much water under the bridge".
In all, nowhere near enough government workers were fired under that program to begin with, but at least they got rid of a couple hundred thousands.
Hopefully, DOGE 2 will cut far more deeply, and AI will get it down to a reasonable level. (Have you tried calling American Express lately? Pretty much like calling government, but Amexp his essentially converted to AI unless you bitch very loudly). |
