I was asked on another board to compare my portfolio for several years with that of the S&P. Here are my results from the past 6 years.

I pulled my Ally statements from 2020 to 2025. I compared my beginning balance on January 1 and my ending balance on December 31 for each of the years. These totals include all my buys, sells, and holdings. I did not dump money into this account after 2019. The only money that was added outside of sales was from dividends.

In 2020, my portfolio gained 175.29%, compared to the S&P 18.40%.
In 2021, I had a gain of 100.03%, compared to the S&P 28.71%.
In 2022, I had a loss of 10.70%, compared to the S&P -18.11%.
In 2023, I had a loss of 8.55%, compared to the S&P 26.29%.
In 2024, I had a gain of 13.51%, compared to the S&P 25.02%.
In 2025, I had a gain of 11.34%, compared to the S&P 17.88%.

My average for these 6 years was 46.82%, compared to S&P 16.37%.
