| | | The person who has done the most to kill the EV industry in the US is Trump. That is a bizarre comment. Taxpayer (and Trump) were under no obligation to keep funding EVs. And while that surely hurt Musk in Q4, Tesla is still in business, has a better balance sheet than any other EV maker today, and Tesla will be close to breakeven for last year in spite of it (eyeballing it quickly, a $2B loss), which is a hell of a lot than other American automakers are doing (I think Ford took about 20 Billion on its EV operations in Q4, and GM was in the 10-millions range, I think).
And Tesla lost leadership of the industry a few years ago when Elon lost his marbles during COVID. No idea what Covid has to do with it, but Musk certainly was doing great work at that time, generally; but I have no idea what this reference is about.
Mostly, the Tesla problem came about because its automotive line is all EVs and EV sellers took a beating. ALL of them, AFAIK.
If Ford, GM, Stelantas, and ALL of the others hadn't had Musk doing their creative work for them, not ONE of them would be in the EV business today. |
