So, what are individuals focused on rather than buying stocks where the dividend is the thesis?

When I was more interested in dividends I bought using the same criteria as I do now - buy growth. But I bought growth stocks that were dividend-payers. Companies like MSFT, KLAC, AAPL, CMI, etc.,. Plenty of companies with double-digit earnings and revenue growth that pay dividends.

If I felt I needed to raise my overall yield I did it by buying what I used to call my sluggards - some of which were on this list. MO, VZ, utes, etc, to balance it out. But I always wanted at least some growth companies.

I also had some REITs and BDCs

The biggest change when I switched to more of a growth focus was getting rid of the sluggards.
