They used through-bolts to secure the other elements, where appropriate, for strength.
You saw that, right?
They knew what they were doing.
Now you see a photo of a guy with a driver, securing the crosspiece with a driven fastener through the top of the crossbeam.
Isn't it reasonable to assume that fastener would be a lag bolt, consistent with, and sized similarly to the through-bolts?
It looks substantial in the photo.
A 1/2" lag bolt through the crosspiece, from the top, into the top of the vertical 4X4s would be consistent with the rest of their construction, and be more than sufficient, structurally, for the single use it was built for.
Driving in a lag screw from the top actually IS a great way to build something like that.
So far, you seem to be much more supportive of the propaganda you've been fed, rather than the pictorial evidence I have collected, posted and explained for you.
I can't help you with flushing the propaganda from your head, but will continue to post the evidence I find, to help you understand that the gallows was of sturdy construction, very strong and fully capable of hanging someone from, and not, as you seem to want to believe, a flimsy representation of a gallows. |
