Samsung Display has confirmed that it has begun full-scale mass production of its 8.6th-generation organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels. Samsung Display reportedly internally shipped samples to customers for a fee, with mass production feasibility verified, including yield (the ratio of good products to finished products). OLED panels produced on the new 8.6th-generation line are slated to be installed in new laptops released this year.

The 8.6th-generation OLED is hailed as a "game changer" in the display industry. Its key feature is its use of glass substrates that are approximately 2.25 times larger than the existing 6th-generation line, improving production efficiency and reducing costs. Samsung Display announced in April 2023 that it would invest approximately 4.1 trillion won to build a production line with a monthly production capacity of 15,000 panels, with the goal of mass production this year.

According to industry sources on the 15th, Samsung Display will hold a "shipping ceremony and safety prayer event" at its Asan plant, where the 8.6th-generation production line is located, to celebrate the successful launch of the line and the successful operation of the new product. Key executives, including Lee Cheong, President of Samsung Display, will attend the launch ceremony.
