There is an old American saying that goes something like this: I don’t want to be pushed around.

By contrast, the British attitude can sometimes feel like wearing a sign that says, please push me around—or like the Shmoo from Li’l Abner, the little creature that runs up to everyone it meets saying, “Please eat me.” -or- "I'm delicious!"

If you want government involvement in your lives, you’ve certainly got it. To me, the whole concept seems backward. That mindset may stem from the monarchy system itself. In the United States, people generally believe the government exists to serve the people; in the UK, there often seems to be a belief that people are owned by the system and must serve it.

You will. You shall. You must.

That way of thinking is completely foreign to me.
