<<They almost sold me a G3 this week, >>

I stopped by a CompUSA today to check out the line of Macs. I've been weighing the political odds of buying at CompUSA to stimulate their support of Apple, or by using the Apple Online Store to stimulate their success.

What I saw at CompUSA did not impress me. The online store had boxes of Windows stuff laying in the aisles (perhaps they were running out of space) and all the Macs were turned off. One of them was not hooked up properly or non-functional. Keyboards were very grubby. There was only one G3 machine there. Some guy who does desktop video came in looking for a G3 to met his needs and was disappointed by the selection. The sales rep did not have much of a sell on the upgradeability to satisfy this user.

As the sales rep left, I recommended that he try the Apple Online store to customize a machine to his liking. He told me that he was at Computer City yesterday and they were having a firesale on Macs...50-70 percent off. Too late. All sold out. They were getting rid of their inventory.

I think I may settle for an 8600/300 machine. I may also wait for the G4s.
