Those old AM stations had some reach at 50,000 watts... I see it is still on the air, but now as KOKC, and the format is news-talk... so many AM stations have gone that route. en.wikipedia.org I had the unfortunate experience (summer job) of trying to sell advertising on a 100,000 watt FM station in 1967. No merchant in the area even knew what FM radio was. Fortunately I was paid hourly plus commission, so I escaped starvation. It was an automated station, playing 'beautiful music' 24 hours a day. Plays country and western now.
