Its an old argument of mind and body. I had to review some of Sartre's writing on existenialism and what kept bugging me was the separation of mental activity from physical. We know that one begets the other in a continuous and simultaneous system. The arguement of soul enters the argument as a question of what happens to us when the body dies. If the soul goes on then there must also exist a living soul separate from the mind/body interaction. For humans, ideas are more important than actions.. which is why I pointed you to the url. Language and symbolism outlast and supercede the individual as it forms an independent yet connected web we participate through. The life of language that we share necessitated the construction of life after death.. of a soul if you will.
