In the lower mainland when I was a kid you could almost guarantee a cold snap that would freeze ponds and lakes for a least two weeks sometimes a month, I remember skating on a lake for almost a mile. 2008 was the last time we had a big snowfall that lasted. Now we seldom get cold snaps that last and no lakes freeze enough to skate on. This winter I have turned on the heat only 4 times, its been very warm. Almost the end of January and no snow, maybe this is the year we get none at all.
