Heywood,
Until or unless MAGA is able to articulate when America was great
This is easy. One of the key traits of right-wing fascism is revolutionary conservatism, or radical change in the name of a mythical past.

MAGA cultists believe that things used to be oh so much better back in 1976. Or 1926. Or 1876. Whenever.

Look at Treadfish, for example. He pines for a time when we weren't being iNvAdEd by iLlEgAl aLiEnS.

Christian nationalists, of course, think a past America was much better than the "woke" America of today, and they point to the decline of Christianity as the sole reason.

When you tell them to define when America was "great," they will always have a hard time answering because there is no answer. All they have is the notion that America was once "great" but is no longer the case.

It's a mystical concept that cannot easily be explained because it simply isn't real. But they think they can make it real simply by doing whatever it takes. Ends justify the means.

It's the "do something" mentality that, by itself, legitimizes the goals.

And we see Trump "doing something." He's actually doing a LOT of things. And the 38% of Americans that STILL support Trump like the volume of actions that he is taking, even though the more he does, the more he ends up destroying.
