jmac,

compaq is going to have much more difficulty integrating dell into their company than is generally realized by folks accustomed to regularly playing cpq.

the corporate cultures are quite disparate. this will cause some grief for cpq - what to do with all of the talent and will all of it stick around. knowledgable analysts are exercising great caution regarding cpq for the short term and near term. why hurry when there are so many tech stocks offering fewer complications.

by the way even if amd does form an alliance with ibm to offer a cheaper alternative to the pentium, nobody will be knocking intel off in the forseeable future. maybe not the best place for too many eggs, you always have microsoft! that one will never go away.

good luck
