The same risk Jobs took with Apple. If Musk were to leave Tesla, for any reason including death it would be the end of an era and the company could perhaps survive, but would immediately lose its value with essentially no chance of recovery. That is the risk taken by owning shares without hedging.

You don't just go pick a new Musk out of the want-ads.
