When you observe someone die, they live on inside you and others. When you or I pass away we will live on in others as a wide variety of memories both experiencial and linguistic. There is an apparent imortality of self derived from memory via language, the language is memory to a great extent. Languages too can die. In that sense the soul would die within this context.

We perceive constructions of shared memetics living outside us and believe in things through a linguistic database or common social mind. Where there is belief in soul, there is non-belief... they are one and the same within the socio-linguistic map.

Perhaps this same awareness wouldn't exist in a theroretical person that never knows anyone in their lifetime.. but they wouldn't share the contextural message or memetic of soul as "we" know it.
