The second season of Patience was a disappointment. The premise remains interesting -- an autistic archivist helping solve crimes -- but it seems to me the show does really come to grips with autism, and as these types of shoes always seem to do, they keep trying to remove the rough edges so everything can be nice. Another symptom of trouble -- the two new characters both looks like models, so every now and then I look at the screen and wonder why a bunch of models are standing around wearing police uniforms. There is also a new character who does not look like a model, but instead her character is irritating.

I have a similar problem with Allegiance, which I figured I should try because it set locally in a suburb of Vancouver without pretending to be somewhere else as per all the American-set shows made here. But the characters are far too good-looking, destroying verisimilitude. It really makes you appreciate shows like Shetland, where the characters look like regular folks.
