Are we talking about charity here?

Well what the heck is "free forever" IE supposed to be anyway, YuanQing? If it's not really free, what's the cost? What's the deal with free IE for Unix? Can't claim that one's integrated with the OS.

As for TCI, no, I've never seen anyone report that Malone expected charity from Microsoft. Anyway, Bill's bucks were supposed to be an "investment", right? Not a bribe to cement a new monopoly. Why does Microsoft need to pay people to use its excellent best-of-breed software anyway?

Of course, everyone knows the game being played. Comcast seems to have done pretty well, they somehow managed to get the gigabucks without any explicit obligation. Doesn't look like that's going to happen again.

Cheers, Dan.
