Jabil Circuit <JBIL.O> seeks to diversify products
TAMPA, Feb 23 (Reuters) - Jabil Circuit Inc, a maker of circuit boards for computers and electronics companies, hopes to continue its diversification of customers and products, Chris Lewis, the company's chief financial officer, said on Monday.
"We see long term growth opportunity in wireless communications and wired telephony," Lewis said at an investor forum sponsored by the Tampa Bay Business Journal and Robert W. Baird & Co Inc.
Lewis said Jabil had gone from four major customers in 1994 to 16 in 1998. Its major customers include 3Com, Gateway 2000, and Hewlett-Packard.
Lewis said the company now has about 50 percent of its revenues from communications businesses, compared to 50 percent from the personal computer business four years ago.
He said Jabil offered design and engineering expertise as well as a unique management style.
"We organize the company around the customer," Lewis said.
Lewis said that any financial problems in Asia were likely to only have a minor impact on the company, since only six percent of its revenues were derived from Asia.
"In the short term, it is not significant," he said.
Jabil is based in St. Petersburg, Florida.
