Jim Cramer reads the tape. IMO this is a form of technical analysis even though he may not admit to it. This approach uses the tape (numeric representation of price and volume action per tick) instead of a chart (graphical representation of the same information over a period of time as little as three minutes). The visual form of price and volume action has its benefits. The charting method allows the introduction of other indicators which can be visually compared to the price action of the stock. But that charts cannot replace the tick by tick information that the electronic tape (T&S) gives a trader. This is why I like the quotes.com style of ticker which provides both in a visually useful way.

Jim Cramer is a character. The one example I remember him giving as an error in a call made by a chartist is later in this same article attributed to a poor read of the chart which he proves by turning to his wife the "Trading Goddess". He then placed his trade accordingly. This guy needs issues. He appears to savour issues like some do fine wine. He likes being disagreeable. It sometimes can be entertaining.
