High-speed data over PCS - I think not.

I'm NO EXPERT, but give me a second. Broadband PCS has about 100 to 150 Mhz of spectrum in the 2Ghz area (I think). So the way I see it is that if no one is using their phones in NYC; then 7 or 8 friendly people could exchange data at 2Mbps.

Short quick text messages like e-mail great. OK, but you don't need speed for that. I have a digital GSM PCS phone and I can't walk around the block and not find at least 5 or 6 "dead" spots. Driving in my car and talking its no problem at all, but I'm not trying to transmit a 5 megabyte file while being handed off to another cell. Error correction, Error correction, Error correction will kill their mobile high speed bandwidth plans in the real world. LMDS does not really have this problem - you fiddle with the small antenna till it works and then you leave it.

PS: I think comments by AT&T are a little self serving based on their sloooow entry into the PCS area and they may be having second thoughts about not being in LMDS auction.

Still a CVUS fan
Elliot
