Another person on this thread suggested that Compaq management wished to re-purchase its own stock at a lower price as part of the employees' benefit program

If I was into conspiracy theory, I'd go with the other theory on this thread, that a low price helps on the Digital acquisition.

However, I do doubt that CPQ management would get into these murky waters, because the chances of serious sh*t happening to them, were they to be found out, just seem to high to be worth the risk.

Going back to the Tandem acquisition, the share price tanked, immediately upon and for a few weeks after the announcement, only to then rise dramatically.

Personally, I am waiting for the announcements of large scale layoffs at Digital or selling off of parts of Digital, before I sell some (or all) of my CPQ and buy Dell. I have no inside knowledge of this, its just what I expect to happen based on the fact they they obviously dont need (or want) all of it, plus there must be a large overlap in central functions.
