RESEARCH ALERT - Dell price target raised
NEW YORK, Feb 27 (Reuters) - Lehman Brothers said analyst Kimberly Alexy raised her price target on Dell Computer Corp to $156 a share.
-- a summary report from Lehman did not list the previous price target or set a time frame for the move.

-- the analyst was not immediately available.

-- said in report that while ''end demand remained relatively strong in the month of February, more resellers are beginning to endorse our view that ASPs (average selling prices) are under pressure.''

-- said, ''We maintain that PC vendors best positioned to weather declining ASPs are those with favorable mix shifts such as Dell, which remains our favorite PC stock.''

-- added that believes ''Dell is leveraging the direct model to take advantage of component cost declines more effectively than its peers, effectively widening the price gap between indirect/direct and creating incremental opportunity for Dell near-term.''

-- said believes this will allow Dell to sustain top-line momentum over the near term, fueling upside to Lehman's earnings estimates on the computer maker.

-- said new price target was based on one times Lehman's growth estimate for Dell of 40 percent.
