I am not going to argue about the 'in combinations with other techniques' part because then we might as well be talking about politics or religion and it would be pointless. But if on average buying or selling on the trendlines do not produce above average results then it must be entirely the other techniques that are bringing you your results.

'But then I suppose all the great minds out there, with the power to move hundreds of millions of $, just use MA indicators for fun and not as an effective aid to time their entry/exit points'

Since the MA indicators do not bring about above average results it would seem likely that some other great minds use the liquidity brought about by the MA signal to get out of a stock that others are trying to get into.
