I thought I had made that clear. While it could help AMDs market share it hurts their bottom line. If AMD had confidence in their yields they wouldn't need to consider IBM...If IBM can dump AMD chips on the market that takes AMDs pricing out of AMDs control. Something tells me that IBM isn't going to agree to a FAB agreement unless they can cover their behind. IBM is out for IBM...not to help AMD...
Let's suppose NSM comes out with a great MXi chip...really fast with a fast FPU...on a 62mm die size...don't think for a minute that IBM wouldn't switch their best processes to that chip and stick their name on it if they deemed it to their advantage...
If AMD can't make it by going alone on the production then they lose control...
