MSFT and ORCL as a threat to COgnos, BOBJY have been mentioned every time these cos. make the papers. Personally I don't worry about it too much. Because even for MSFT, to get a foot hold they will have to buy one or the other because selling these tools to large IS shops is not really like selling NT or MS Office etc. The people you deal with and mind set is different. As for Oracle, they have been selling against Cognos for quite a while but only time they make it is when the shop is also getting their DBMS (database software) or other software and this is something that is thrown in. Any organization that have multiple DBMSs etc. would like the tool to work against all of them and they like the BI tool vendor to be the independent type who will make sure that the tools work against all the prominent data bases.
