Novell faces shareholder suit
Stewart Deck

Novell, Inc. stockholders have filed a class-action lawsuit against the company alleging it violated the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, claims that Novell officers concealed serious business problems and misrepresented demand for the company's products.

The class action is being handled by law firms Milberg Weiss Bershad Hynes & Lerach LLP and Kilsheimer & Fox LLP on behalf of shareholders who owned Novell stock between Nov. 1, 1996 and April 22, 1997. During that period, Novell's stock price fell from 11-1/4 to 9-1/8. In July 1997, shares dipped as low as 6-3/4. (See Novell's current stock price.) A spokesman at Novell said the Provo, Utah-based networking firm "has yet to see the complaint and therefore has no comment."
