CIEN had a strong showing at OFC. They had a nice new booth and had operational demonstrations of Firefly and their MultiWave 4000 system. The MultiWave 4000 system is now shipping and interest was guaged as strong. Show personnel were very friendly and seemed eager to tell their story. Representatives from cable companies were seen to be expressing interest in the demo. General traffic through the booth was strong. A crowd of 9200 people in the industry attended the show. LU had no WDM systems to show in public. Zero, zip, nothing, NADA! They seemed reluctant to talk about the 80 channel system and those present didn't even pretend to know much about it. Very disappointing. NT also did not bother to show any WDM systems but this may not be the audience they or LU seek. Pirelli also demo'ed their 32 channel system (with a flaw!) but in my impression CIEN had the much better product. Pirelli drew more attention to the 6 motorcycles that they brought along.
