Interesting Globe & Mail front-page article this morning on lobbying of the new European Bank members to hold at least 10% of the Bank's reserves as gold. Barrick and other gold producers sent Brian Mulroney and John Crow to lobby those involved with the European Bank. The article suggests that the Bank will hold some of its reserves in gold, but the percent isn't yet known. A decision is expected in about a month. The growing employment problems for South African mine workers may have an influence, according to the article. The article points out the irony of Mulroney and Crow, who were responsible for Canada's dramatic drop in gold holdings, now lobbying foreign governments to maintain their holdings. Wish I could post the whole article. Maybe somebody else can.
