Joe: You're Stripes are Looking Pretty Poor
You know Joe, there are just to many things in this world important enough to get all worked up about. In my book, its family, God and helping others.
You seem to have an almost pathological wish to judge, point blame, ridicule, complain and yet confess almost as much at the same time.
What's really confusing to me is that while you have this boundless energy, it's all aimed at tearing down, negating, etc. And all the while you point over at Billy and say - hell fire, BS, Ass_ole that he is - yet God Bless him. Stop right there.....I know, I know, I know....I got the words even before they left your brain....IT'S ABOUT MONEY, FRED...SHOW ME THE MONEY, etc. etc. yada, yada, yada...zip, pop!!
But Joe, in your state or mindset, did you ever stop to consider, despite all your experience, knowledge in the industry , etc. that your ability to "see" or perceive the real story about what's happening could be - just possibly - somewhat jaded by your negatively focused energy? If ego is involved, once you've picked sides you've almost eliminated any chance of seeing and understanding the story on the other side. Ego prevents us from understanding any point of view that does not match our own - its just the nature of the beast.
I didn't intend on making this into a "session" and I'm no psychoanalyst, but you're behavior over the last couple days really is, as someone noted over on MF recently, childish! You are doing yourself and this board a disservice with all your Heh, heh, hehs, black humor, negative plants and phrases. Let's deal with the facts. The national media did the same thing over Zippergate - and all of us, to some degree, got sucked up into it - but again, the truth - excuse me...Zip-It-Up-Bill - needs to come out.
All I respect is the truth. Let's do justice to this story about the lawsuit and lay the entire thing out there for all to see.
If I were Eric, the best thing I could do for Novell would be to estblish the facts and honor the truth. If that means restating some numbers, deal with it, isolate the involvement - move people out and move on. Novell can't get bogged down with a distraction at this point. I'm not saying I agree with the allegations. I know there were restatements and I was on Novell all through that period on the bear side - waiting for the turn to come in. These changes do not happen overnight.
Face it Joe, you were early and wrong. The SI Novell board became a buzzards nest, attracting all the dark mindsets out there - like filings to a magnet - just get on the soapbox and complain and you'll find a huge audience in this world. For the world loves to complain, loves the dark humor, loves to kick others when they're down, etc. Again, just the nature of the beast - mankind. And I'm certainly not perfect - christ - oops - ah, jeezzzes, yes I get stacked and blow off like the best of them.
As for Novell, I agree its gotten a little ahead of itself here. I am fully engaged and supportive of its future and confident they have the plan, technology, resources and partners to make it happen.
As for Microsoft - my guess is in another two years the world will look at it as a legacy NOS. The entire world will eventually pave over the MS Windows railroad tracks just like the old trolley cars and original RR tracks of yore.
In the current world - the Windows Railroad is a monopoly because Gates controls the size of the tracks. Problem is: he keeps changing the guage so the cars and accessories other companies build to run on "HIS" tracks won't run anymore. Then he turns around an blatently lies about changing his guage to all the world. And as you look over the record he and Balmer have stolen and lied and lied their way into multi-billionaire fortunes. But the world has gotten wise. I expect to see another very hard round of disclosures against MS. If Justice does not act to break apart MS, U.S. technology leadership and growth will suffer.
Even in the heyday growth of early U.S. railroads, the U.S. and other railroads agreed to standardize on the B&O's track guage. But did this mean the B&O became a single monopoly? Hardly. Guag Can youThis is not unlike the g
Gates and his crew should be very worried. Exploding bandwidth, Java and open systems - along with leadership from companies like Novell - will PAVE OVER the Windows RR tracks. Then and only then will the REAL information revolution really begin to be understood by the entire investment world.
We are in the midst of THE BIGGEST economic, social and political revolution in world history. Information and truth will have the upper hand for the world will be a lot more transparent because of open systems, open technologies fueled as they will be by the mega-bandwidth that will blow-up by paving over the proprietary, closed, legacy MS Windows - shifting guaged - Railroad.
Then we'll have a new Information Superhighway - akin to the U.S. Interstate highway system that fueled this countries rise to dominance after WWII. From here on out the pie will get so much bigger that we will look back at these days and say, jeeezz.....what was all the fuss about??? Gates, ha, ha, ha, he really missed boat, but he did have a nice run.
Ok, Ok, call me stupid, but I do think Microsoft's star is in decline while Novell and the trend toward Java and open systems IS the future.
ComputerWorld, Byte, InfoWorld, PC Magazine and all the other on and off-line denizens...should be putting more of this kind of commentary into their info pipes so we all can begin to see the true smoke signals out there!
Calm down Joe. And God bless Paul, Steve, Vinod, Alphonse and the rest of the bear crew. Don't just sit there like vultures. Get off the tree and fly so you can see what's really happening out there!
Good luck! |
