Good technical discussion. This is an example of the same types of debates that are common among the manufacturers of different devices. A new feature on a device almost always comes at the cost of another (which is often the price of the device) and the design is a series of trade-offs. What is the cost of the low voltage threshold? Will theses circuits now require additional + or - power supply voltages? Nothing is free in the world of power electronics.
