X the Unknown,

It is true that the best product may not win. The advantage always
goes to the guys either:

1) First out the door (IOM)

2) Most manufacturing capability (everybody but Sony in the
Betamax vs VHS war)

3) Market domination due to market dependance (Wintel)

4) Best lawyers (MSFT VS AAPL)

5) Marketing (AOL vs Prodigy, compuslave...etc)

This is why the Iomega Zip drive is winning. It may not be the best
product, but to some degree or another, they meet the five conditions
for long term market dominance. Further, now Iomega may not be the
turn around stock it was in 1995, but at that time it was a penny
stock and for that reason alone, many institutions and people would
not touch the stock because of the risk factors. Here we are in 1998
and the stock is now a "Warren Buffett" type stock. It will start
finding acceptance among the very conservative investors because it
is like Cocacola now...ubiquitous...marketed...worldwide...and since
nobody else can "bottle" it, just like Cocacola, the only place you
can get your Zip is from Iomega.

I expect this stock could double this year, and again the next. I'll
take a "2-bagger" with little downside risk. It sure beats picking
up 10k of Syquest and hoping for a miracle.
