GWM.. Since this is the largest merger in the industry no one can give you an example of one that was successful. An analogy would be the buildup of the auto industry though. Hundreds of automakers have come and gone and we are now left with just three. Or look at MSFT. Its history of growth has come in large part from one aquisition after another. In fact that is basically how it started. Or look at Proctor and Gambel, RJR Nabisco, MO, GE, yada, yada, yada.

If you want to talk about merging cultures, that is just psycho-babble. An international company in any industry deals with cultural issues daily, within and without the corporate structure. DEC and CPQ have been doing it for years. If you walked into a European CPQ shop would you expect it to have the same cultural aura as the CPQ shop in Texas? Do you think the marketing strategy is different in different countries? Corporate culture differs within the corporation in every corner of the world and it also varies within our own different geographic regions of the USA. It is all Psycho-retoric on this level.

You mention DEC as being a drag on CPQ for 2 years. Where do you come up with that one? EP says accretion this year. Do you know something he doesn't?
