Recently went shopping for scanners and came home with 2 Visioneers to try out -- a Strobe Serial ($149) and a 3100 Flatbed ($99). The 3100 will go back because its parallel port passthrough caused problems with my HP Laserjet. Also I didn't like the fact that it lacked even a simple on-off switch and the lamp stayed on all the time.

As for the Strobe, it certainly is easy to use. Problem is that its OCR software has great difficulty handling fonts with serifs. This is a big problem with most OCR software. Visioneer is now touting its new OCR software for its speed and language handling capabilities. That's fine, but unless it handles serifs better than Textbridge, I wish them luck.

Has anyone found any other OCR software that really improves the error rate with serif fonts?
