Yes I am familiar with them and the products and No I did not say Oracle would not compete. Cognos have said a number of times that they feel Oracle is the competitor to watch. They don't consider BOBJY their main threat.

What I meant was if you are an Oracle shop and that is the only DBMS you have then it is a no brainer. You will go with Oracle BI Tools since it will provide tighter integration. However, if you are a large shop and you have DB2 on the mainframe and/or Oracle or Informix or even Sybase on the departmental level servers/systems (and their are a lot of large shops like that where they have multiple DBMSs) then you would not go with one DBMS vendor's BI tools necessarily because you want a tool that will allow to access all of the databases.

Regardless, more and more competitors are entering this market place so there is bound to be a shakeout/takeover/merger what have you. BOBJY in particular is a good takeover candidate, imo.
