It starts here zdnet.co.uk zdnet.co.uk There's one new product that, rather amazingly, manages to get around the bandwidth limitations of the parallel port and manages to capture full-screen, full-motion video. LA Vision's Dazzler (œ229 ex. VAT) isn't a camera but an interface device that connects to the PC's parallel port and can accept video input from a separate camcorder or VCR. LA Vision's Dazzler uses a new MPEG compression chip developed by C-Cubed. This compresses the incoming video signal down to as little as 1/200th of its original size. Such a high level of compression means that even full screen video files can be transferred across the parallel port. However, there's a compromise involved here, as such intense compression techniques inevitably involve the loss of a certain amount of image data. That, in turn, can cause a loss of image quality. If you want to use video for business purposes, with the quality that entails, you'll need an alternative video capture device that provides much higher image quality.
